Q: Why is Ontario implementing a new policy on the number of times candidates may attempt the LLQP exam?
A: The goals of this re-write policy are to ensure that suitable candidates are entering the industry, promote preparedness for the exam and harmonize Ontario’s rules with respect to rewrite policies with those in other jurisdictions.
Q: How will the policy be applied to candidates who have already failed the exam one or more times prior to September 1, 2005? Will those attempts count against them?
A: No, everyone is given a fresh start. The waiting period will apply to all candidates at the same time. Previous attempts will not count against the candidate. The new policy applies to attempts at passing an LLQP exam as of September 1, 2005.
Q: Does the policy indicate over what time period the first 3 attempts are to be made?
A: Candidates are encouraged to attempt the exam when they are ready. As long as the candidate has a valid certificate from a course provider, there is no set time period over which the first three attempts may be made.
Q: What happens if a course certificate expires and the candidate hasn’t passed the exam?
A: Consumers expect to be served by knowledgeable agents. The goal is to ensure only qualified candidates who fully understand the material enter the industry. If a candidate’s certificate expires before he or she is able to attempt the exam again, the candidate is required to obtain a valid certificate before attempting the LLQP examination again.
Q: If a candidate fails the full LLQP exam three times, can he or she attempt the Transitional Restricted A exam three times before being required to wait six months?
A: Yes, qualified candidates may make three attempts at the full LLQP exam and three attempts at the Transitional Restricted Part A exam before being required to wait six months. Please note that the Transitional Restricted Part A exam will not be available after December 31, 2006.
Q: Does this rewrite policy apply to agents with a Transitional Restricted LLQP licence who are attempting the Residual B exam to become a full LLQP licensed agent?
A: No, the rewrite policy does not apply to Transitional Restricted LLQP agents attempting the Residual Part B exam. Agents holding a Transitional Restricted life insurance licence already have a time limitation to obtain a full LLQP licence.
